Shortlisting recognises the importance of animal welfare in Benchmark’s innovative Ectosan® Vet and CleanTreat® solution
Today Benchmark Animal Health announce that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Animal Welfare category at the prestigious Aquaculture Awards 2022.
Sea lice are a severe problem in the salmon industry, impacting the welfare of both farmed and wild fish. The approval of Ectosan® Vet with CleanTreat® by Norwegian authorities in 2021 represented a key development in highly efficacious and welfare friendly sea lice management. Benchmark’s solution is the first new medicinal sea lice treatment to be introduced to the Norwegian salmon market in over a decade.
Ectosan® Vet and CleanTreat ® has been rigorously tested, reviewed and approved to ensure it is safe for people, fish and the environment. Benchmark’s experienced Technical Services team also provide high levels of support throughout the entire process to ensure the highest levels of animal welfare are maintained. This includes treatment guidance, welfare evaluations and broader technical support. Their dedicated efforts have been acknowledged through the shortlisting from Aquaculture UK.
The Aquaculture Awards were created to celebrate projects, businesses and individuals making an exceptional contribution to the global aquaculture community. Their Animal Welfare award is focused on celebrating the success of initiatives which improve the welfare of farmed fish and/ or the wildlife they interact with. They seek to champion and share the incredible efforts of those driving the industry forward.
John Marshall, Head of Benchmark Animal Health, said: “Animal welfare is central to all of our operations at Benchmark. We are honoured to have been shortlisted for this award as it recognises the instrumental work that our team have undertaken in the delivery of Ectosan® Vet and CleanTreat ®.
In addition to effectively removing sea lice, this solution ensures fish welfare is not compromised during or after treatments. I am delighted that we have been shortlisted alongside some other incredible nominations.”
The winner of the award will be announced at an awards ceremony in Aviemore, Scotland on 4th May 2022.
