Prior to joining Benchmark, Hans held the role of fish health specialist at a software company with tools to predict fish health and previously worked in technical operations and maintenance.
Hans Berg Nåvik joined Benchmark Animal Health at the start of May 2022, based in Bergen. As an Associate Product Manager, Hans focuses on improving and developing both existing and future sea lice products.
What drew you to your role at Benchmark Animal Health?
Even before I joined, I saw Benchmark Animal Health as highly ambitious, as the company charged head-on to tackle the challenges experienced by fish farmers. Benchmark operates in close collaboration with the farmers, and I found that prospect appealing. When the opportunity to work with the business presented itself, I had no doubts and luckily the impression I had of the company was correct!
What most excites you about Benchmark’s technology?
Across the world, the aquaculture industry is in constant development. The CleanTreat® technology from Benchmark facilitates more sustainable treatments, with a focus on fish welfare. The ability to use highly efficacious medicines with a water purification treatment is a significant addition to the farmers’ toolbox and showcases Benchmark’s commitment to driving improvements in the industry.
What global challenge are you most looking forward to solving with Benchmark?
Working with animal health, the challenges will always be changing and adapting given the aquatic environment and biological drivers. We have witnessed changing fish pathogens emerging in new areas, working their way around different mitigation, prevention, and therapeutic methods. This is a big challenge and something that we need to be mindful of when working with animals. In many regions across the world, sea lice are among some of the biggest challenges. This is not only due to the effect on wild fish stocks, but also due to implications on health and welfare as the fish are treated. Being a part of a Benchmark team that works to assist fish farmers and provide additional tools to tackle this challenge is very exciting.
